Meeting Minutes

Minutes from the February 2010 Division Meeting:

Father Kelly led the members in prayer. The speaker was William Ryan Drew, who discussed the history of the AOH in the context of antiimmigrant feeling in the 1800's and shared some reflections on the re-starting of the Milwaukee Division. New members were introduced, and officer reports were given. The 2009 financial report, along with the 2010 budget, was shared and discussed. It was agreed that, in order to reduce cost, monthly mailings would be handled by the ICHC going forward. A $250 contribution to the Jesuit Partnership in honor of Rev. Richard McGarrity, S.J., former Assistant Chaplain of the Division, was approved. The results of the on-line survey were shared. Based on the overwhelming preference to retain Derry's as the Division’s primary meeting place, the current method of scheduling locations for the monthly meetings will be retained. A June meeting in Oshkosh at the Oshkosh Irish Fest was approved, and the members expressed no objection to the idea of Fox Valley Chapter that would be part of the Milwaukee Division. Arrangements and details for the St. Patrick's Day celebrations were discussed. Officer nominations were accepted for Doug Smith as President, Sean Callahan as Second Vice President, Bob Mikush as Treasurer, Mike Finley as Membership Secretary, Patrick Smith as Recording Secretary, Michael Kilkenny as Corresponding Secretary, and Rev. William Kelly, S.J., as Chaplain. Nominations were held open until the March meeting, pending identification of a nominee for First Vice President. The Division agreed to sponsor the Karan Casey concert at the ICHC on Saturday, May 22; all dues-paid members will receive one free ticket to the concert. The officers were authorized to pursue discussions of a permanent traveling display discussing the AOH and the Milwaukee Division. Motions concerning sponsorship of the Thriller at Miller softball game and the Friends of Merrill Park picnic were tabled. Members were reminded again to add their email addresses to our electronic lists, maintained by Doug Smith and Father Kelly. Father Kelly led the members in closing prayers.
